(I decided to keep this because it contains an example of Human impact on the Ecosystem of the world.)
Life Cycle of the Peppered Moths
1. Why are these moths called "peppered moths?"
They are called Pepper Moths because of the pattern on they're wings.
2. What animals eat the peppered moth?
Predators of the Peppered Moths include Flycatchers, Nuthatches, and the European Robin.
3. What is a lichen?
Lichens are small Fungi.
4. What do the larvae of the moth eat?
They feed on the leaves of the Birch, Willow, and Oak trees.
5. How do peppered moths spend the winter?
To avoid death the larvae turn into a Pupae (cocoons) for the winter.
6. Moths that have more dark spots than the average moth are called what?
Insularia.
Impact of Pollution
7. Where was the first black form of the moth found?
Near the center of Manchester.
8. What was the Industrial Revolution?
A period of time in England where Factories were being built, and they ran on burning coal for fuel.
9. What was causing the different colors in the moths?
Some thought that the moths were changing their color the same way the larvae could. And some others said that the chemicals in the smoke were changing their color.
